After using Noom for a month to review the app, one thing that stood out is how expensive it is to use.

I’ve never seen a nutrition app that costs as much as Noom, but I’ve also never come across a nutrition app that has as many capabilities.

Below I’m going to detail all the pricing options for Noom and explain how you can save money if you decide to become a subscriber.

I also give you a table that compares the cost of noom with other popular diet tracking apps, so you can see how it stacks up against its rivals.

Noom

Noom App

Noom offers a 14-day trial for $1 if you’d like to test it out before paying the monthly fee.

Cost of Noom

When you first start using Noom you can sign up for a 2-week trial to test the app at a lower price before committing to one of their payment plans.

After the 14-day trial, you will have to choose one of their payment plans based on how long you plan to use Noom (more on this trial later because it’s not a free trial!)

The pricing options that appear in the Noom app are:

  • 2 month auto-renewing plan $129 USD ($64.5/month)
  • 4 month auto-renewing plan $169 USD ($42.25/month)
  • 6 month auto-renewing plan $179 USD ($29.83/month)
  • 8 month auto-renewing plan $189 USD ($23.62/month)
  • 12 month auto-renewing plan $209 USD (17.41/month)

However, the Noom website has more options to choose from.

The web version of Noom has the following pricing options:

  • Monthly auto-renewing plan for $70 USD
  • 2 month auto-renewing plan for $129 USD
  • 3 month auto-renewing plan for $159 USD
  • 4 month auto-renewing plan for $169 USD
  • 5 month auto-renewing plan for $174 USD
  • 6 month auto-renewing plan for $179 USD
  • 7 month auto-renewing plan for $184 USD
  • 8 month auto-renewing plan for $189 USD
  • 9 month auto-renewing plan for $195 USD
  • 10 month auto-renewing plan for $199 USD
  • 11 month auto-renewing plan for $205 USD
  • Annual auto-renewing plan for $209 USD

I’m not totally sure why Noom has more pricing options available on the website versus in-app.

However, I asked some of my software friends why this might be the case, and they said that companies like to incentive people to subscribe through the website over in-app because then the company doesn’t have to pay fees to Apple or Google.

Is There A Free Version of Noom?

There is no free version of Noom. You can use Noom at a lower cost by doing the 14-day trial, but once your trial is over you must select one of their payment plans to continue using the app.

How Does The Trial Work For Noom?

For the 2-week trial of Noom, you get to decide how much you pay. Yes, you read that correctly, you get to decide whether you pay $1, $16, or  $24.41 for the first 14 days.

Noom encourages those who are financially able to pay the higher trial price to do so so that they can continue offering the $1 trial to those who are limited financially.

It’s hard to imagine that users would intentionally pay more when there’s a lower price available, but perhaps some people do.

Noom

Noom App

Noom emphasizes habits and behaviors that help you adapt to your nutrition so that it feels sustainable rather than just helping you track calories

Are There Any Upgrades Above The Base Membership?

All of Noom’s features (daily psychology lessons, food tracking, recipe database, etc.) are available with the purchase of any length of subscription.

There are no different membership options other than the length of time that you sign up for, so as soon as you sign up you have access to everything Noom has to offer.

However, when I used the app I had to specifically ask to work with a coach even though it was my understanding that a coach was supposed to be assigned to me upon signing up.

So I think it’s worth educating yourself about all of Noom’s features so that you can ensure that you have access to everything that you’re paying for.

How To Save Money Using Noom? 3 Ways

  • Do The 14-Day Trial. With the 14-day trial, you can use the app for as low as $1/day which is a much better deal than signing up for the monthly subscription right off the bat and paying $70.
  • Check With Your Insurance Provider For Coverage. Noom has partnered with many insurance providers and healthcare workers so you could get reimbursed for your Noom subscription.

If you’re referred to Noom by a healthcare provider or insurance then they should provide you with a “Unique Program ID” that you can input during the Noom sign-up process.

  • Sign Up For The Annual Membership If Using Long-Term. If you plan on using Noom long-term, the best way to save money is to sign up for the annual membership which costs $17.41/month rather than $70/month.

Cost of Noom vs Other Apps

o demonstrate how Noom compares to other nutrition apps on the market with similar nutritional capabilities, I’ve put together the following table of Noom Alternatives.

AppFree Version?Cost For 1 MonthCost For 12 Months
NoomNo$70$209
MyMacros+No$1.99$19.99
Lose It!Yes-$39.99
FooducateYes$12.99$64.99
Avatar NutritionNo$9.99$97.99
LifesumYes$9.99$49.99
MyNetDiaryYes$6.50$43.66
MacroFactorNo$11.99$71.99
RP Diet AppNo$14.99$149.99

As you can see, Noom is the most expensive nutrition app on the market. The average monthly cost for all of these popular apps is $9.77; Noom costs over $50 more per month than the average nutrition app.

So, Is Noom Worth Paying For?

With Noom’s hefty price tag you might assume that Noom has some state-of-the-art features that make the price higher, and you’d be right.

Noom stands out among the other nutrition apps because it uses behavioral psychology along with nutrition tracking to help users achieve their weight goals.

While using Noom, you’re encouraged to take part in these daily psychology lessons that help you develop better habits, have a better relationship with food, and become more confident in your knowledge of nutrition.

There is no other app on the market that is combing nutrition and psychology. As a nutrition coach who has tested the app, I can tell you that the psychology aspect of this app is top-notch.

However, the nutrition tracking capabilities of Noom are nothing special. In fact, Noom doesn’t even allow you to track your macronutrient intake (protein, carbs, fats), which is extremely disappointing.

Every other app in this list allows you to track your macronutrient intake along with your calorie intake to ensure that you’re consuming an appropriate number of calories based on your goal but also getting the right quantities of each nutrient to optimize your body composition and overall health.

So the decision becomes, is Noom worth it based on the psychological benefits alone? Or, is it better to go with a cheaper app with better nutritional capabilities?

My recommendation is to try Noom for one month to get an in-depth introduction to key concepts of behavioral psychology.

Is It Hard To Cancel Noom?

Noom was extremely easy to cancel. All you have to do to cancel your Noom subscription is click on “settings” in the drop-down menu on the left side of the app, and then click “manage subscription”. The option to cancel your subscription is easily visible.

After canceling you can go ahead and uninstall the app; be sure to cancel before uninstalling the app because if you don’t cancel you’ll continue to be charged.
