As a supplement store manager, I have people walking in daily asking for Ryse Loaded Pre Workout. I’ve seen the brand on TikTok and backed by major social media influencers like Terrence Ruffin, so I wanted to test the product myself to see if the hype was real.

After several weeks of using Ryse Loaded Pre Workout, I can confirm that it delivers significant, long-lasting energy.  However, it might disappoint some pre-workout users, including me, regarding the pump and strength components.

Key Takeaways

  • Ryse Loaded Pre costs $1.33 per serving, falling reasonably below the market average. We took the average cost of more than 50 products and determined the average cost per serving to be $1.61.
  • While Ryse offers a lower cost, the formula is a simple one. Out of 8 key ingredients, six are responsible for energy and mental focus. Of the two remaining performance-enhancing ingredients, only beta-alanine is at a full clinical dose.
  • Ryse Loaded Pre is best for experienced pre-workout users with good caffeine tolerance since it contains 390mg per serving. It should not be taken by people new to taking pre-workout, people sensitive to caffeine, or anyone who works out in the evening.

What Is Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout?

Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout

Ryse is known for being a flashy and youthful brand with many unique flavor collaborations.

For instance, their Loaded Pre offers flavors like Kool-Aid™ Tropical Punch, Country Time™ Lemonade, Bazooka® Classic Grape, Cerry Ring Pop®, and Smarties®.   All flavor varieties use artificial flavors, and many flavors also add artificial colors.

Ryse Loaded Pre is a high-stimulant formula offering 325mg of caffeine from two different sources. On top of the high caffeine content, Ryse Loaded Pre also contains theobromine, a stimulant similar to caffeine.

Three additional ingredients added to the formula provide mood-boosting and mental focus benefits:

  • L-theanine can help promote a calm mental focus when paired with caffeine and reduce the jitteriness or anxiety from taking high stimulants.
  • Vincamine can improve blood flow to the brain and increase mental focus. (Note that these benefits were seen with intravenous injection of vincamine, but there aren’t any reliable studies of blood flow with oral ingestion).
  • Choline bitartrate is included in both nootropics and pre-workout supplements to increase acetylcholine levels in the body, boosting memory and mental focus.

Aside from the six energy and mental-focus boosting ingredients, the remaining two key ingredients are citrulline (4.5g) and beta-alanine (3.5g). This combination should increase blood flow, endurance, muscle pump, and enhanced recovery.

Many of the ingredients in Ryse are patented, which ensures their quality and effectiveness as a high amount of clinical research backs them.

Claims vs Reality:  How I Felt After Taking Ryse Loaded Pre Workout?

Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout user experienced

This may not be a popular opinion, but it is honest: Ryse Loaded Pre didn’t cut it for me

The one positive, though, is that it delivers on its energy.

With almost 400mg of caffeine per scoop, it would be remarkable not to feel any energizing effects.

I used Ryse for my 5:30 a.m. workouts and experienced increased alertness and energy with no crash afterward.

Unfortunately, that’s all that I noticed from this pre-workout.

I was coming off of testing Black Wolf Pre, where I experienced strength increases and performance improvements week after week.

When I transitioned from BlackWolf Pre to Ryse Loaded Pre, I had a noticeable decrease in strength and endurance, and I struggled to complete the sets and reps that I had been easily completing in the prior weeks.

The beta-alanine tingles from this pre-workout felt really itchy, at times painfully uncomfortable, as opposed to a light tingling sensation I have experienced from many others.

This reminded me of the painful itch I got from taking Ghost Legend pre-workout that made me want to tear my clothes off in the middle of my workout because the feeling of them against my tingling skin was almost unbearable.

I also want to mention that for several days while testing Ryse, I got bad headaches later in the day, about 8-10 hours after taking a full scoop.

I only thought of this once I read through the one and two-star reviews left for Ryse Loaded Pre and saw multiple users report getting bad headaches. It might be caused by the choline, which I further in the ingredients section below.

What I did like about Ryse, aside from the energy boost, is that it tasted great and mixed easily.

I personally tried the Cherry Ring Pop® and  Freedom Rocks (which have crushed-up pop rocks inside).

The crushed-up candy pieces in some flavors were a colorful touch and dissolved easily into the pre-workout.

The two flavors I tried have a carbonation to them, so if you mix your pre-workout by shaking it in a cup, pop the lid open slowly to release the pressure.

Ultimately, my experience with this pre-workout wasn’t the greatest. I felt like it lacked a substantial boost to strength and pump, two key things I look for in my pre-workout.

Note: If you want a highly caffeinated product that will also provide strength and pump, look to Ryse Godzilla Pre-Workout (click to read my review), which comes with 400mg of caffeine and clinical doses of ingredients to support all aspects of workout performance.

Ryse Loaded

Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout

Ryse Loaded Pre is best for experienced pre-workout users with good caffeine tolerance since it contains 390mg per serving.

L-Citrulline

Citrulline acts as a nitric oxide booster. Since nitric oxide helps to dilate the body’s blood vessels, supplementing with citrulline can improve blood flow to the heart and muscles.

Despite a lack of consistent research, there is potential for citrulline supplementation to delay fatigue, increase strength and endurance, and enhance recovery.

The ideal dose of citrulline for enhancing exercise performance is 6000-8000mg taken before exercise.

With 4500mg of citrulline per serving, Ryse Loaded Pre falls shy of clinical dose standards, and experienced pre-workout users might not notice a significant muscle pump.

Beta-Alanine

Beta-alanine is an amino acid that plays a role in manufacturing carnosine in the body.

Carnosine is a molecule highly concentrated in the brain and muscles and acts as a buffer in the body that helps delay muscle fatigue.

Supplementing with beta-alanine has been shown to increase muscle carnosine levels by 15-85%. As such, taking beta-alanine can delay fatigue, allowing you to work out harder and longer.

Beta-alanine supplementation can come with a side effect called paresthesia, which is a tingling or itching sensation in the skin.

Beta-alanine should be taken daily for several weeks to see its full effects. A dose of 3-6g over a 4-10 week period is ideal, with a maintenance dose of 1.2g daily being sufficient afterward.

Ryse Loaded Pre has 3.5g of beta-alanine, within the clinical dose range.

Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout powder supplement

Choline (VitaCholine®)

Choline is a molecule found in high concentrations in egg yolks.

It turns into acetylcholine, providing a cognitive boosting effect. In the body, choline regulates memory, mood, and muscle control

To get these cognitive boosting effects, it’s recommended to take doses between 1000mg and 2000mg (though it’s suggested to start with 50-100mg and work up slowly to that full dose to avoid getting headaches).

Ryse Loaded Pre has 200mg of choline, as the patented form VitaCholine. While this falls just shy of what’s recommended for general health purposes (250-500mg), it is well below the doses shown to boost cognitive function (1000-2000mg).

Caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant that speeds up the central nervous system, increasing alertness, mood, and delayed fatigue.

Because of its stimulatory effects, taking caffeine before exercise can result in increased cardiovascular and HIIT performance and improved strength, endurance, and power

Ryse Loaded Pre contains two sources of caffeine.

They have 300mg of caffeine anhydrous, a quick-acting caffeine source, increasing caffeine levels in the bloodstream in as little as 15 minutes

Ryse also provides 120mg of zumXR®, a delayed-release caffeine, standardized to 75%. This means that the caffeine found in zumXR® releases into the bloodstream more slowly, prolonging the effects of caffeine and preventing a post-workout crash.

Being standardized to 75% means that 120mg of zumXR® provides 90mg of caffeine.

This pre-workout is exceptionally high in caffeine. Delivering 390mg per scoop, it falls just 10mg below the FDA’s recommended safe upper limit of 400mg daily.

For this reason, I recommend that everyone start with a ¼ or ½ scoop serving to assess their tolerance before jumping into the full scoop serving. This product should be reserved for individuals who have already using pre-workout supplements for several months.

Theobromine

While theobromine is similar to caffeine, it offers longer-lasting and calmer energy without the spikes or crashes associated with other forms of caffeine.

The benefits of theobromine include increased cardiovascular performance, improvements to strength, and enhanced cognitive function

There is no clinically effective dose or standard set for theobromine, but one study noted some positive mood enhancements at a 250mg dose

Ryse Loaded Pre contains 100 mg of theobromine, which isn’t enough to elicit significant mood-boosting effects but will pair well with the other sources of caffeine to provide long-lasting, all-day energy.

L-Theanine

Theanine decreases the activity of specific neurotransmitters in the brain that are associated with anxiety. It also increases the activity of feel-good hormones like dopamine and serotonin.

Because of its effects on the body’s neurotransmitters, theanine can promote calmness and relaxation without causing drowsiness.

Pairing theanine with caffeine can improve mental focus and reduce the jitteriness or anxiety commonly associated with high-stimulant pre-workouts.

There isn’t much research on theanine supplementation, but there appears to be one clear optimal strategy when pairing caffeine and theanine.

caffeine to theanine ratio of 1:2 has been ideal for optimal workout performance enhancements. This means that for every 1mg of caffeine you ingest, you want to take 2mg of theanine.

Many studies and pre-workout supplements see this as 50mg of caffeine to 100mg of theanine, or 100mg of caffeine to 200mg of theanine.

With the amount of caffeine found in Ryse Loaded pre (390mg), the optimal dose of l-theanine based on the 1:2 ratio would be 780mg.

Ryse Loaded Pre only offers 50mg of theanine, falling well below the amounts typically used in research.

Vincamine (Thinkamine™)

Thinkamine ™ is a patented form of vincamine, an ingredient that acts as a vasodilator, helping to boost blood flow throughout the body, especially to the brain.

It is advertised as a nootropic supporting the intense caffeine and energy blend found in Ryse Loaded Pre.

Admittedly, I had a lot of difficulty researching this ingredient. Searching for publicly available studies that have used this specific patented ingredient yielded zero results.

When researching the base ingredient, Vincamine, the most common research area is its potential anticancer effects.

Potential side effects of vincamine supplementation include nausea, insomnia, and abnormal dreams.

The lack of research, especially on humans, means no clinical dose is established for vincamine.

Ryse provides 10mg of Thinkamine™, the same dose found in another pre-workout that uses it in their formula, leading me to believe this is the dose recommended by the Swedish company that owns the patent.

Highlights: What I Like About  Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout

Pros vs Cons of Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout

Great Energy

With 390mg of caffeine (more than an extra large Dunkin Donuts coffee) and four more ingredients to support cognitive function and mental focus, there’s no denying that Ryse Loaded Pre delivers significant, long-lasting energy.

The combination of ingredients provides high energy without any jitteriness or anxiety (in my experience).

It’s worth noting that the delayed release of caffeine and high total stimulant content means you should be mindful about taking this later in the day as it might impact the quality of your sleep.

Good Taste

Ryse offers a variety of unique flavors like Smarties®, Cherry Ring Pop®, and Bazooka® grape. Many of the flavors also feature sprinkle-like pieces of the candies they are named after.

Even with the candy bits, Ryse Loaded Pre dissolved well with minimal effort, making it easy to drink.

Ryse Supps is well-known for their great taste and flavor collaborations. These collabs happen not just with their pre-workout, but span all of their products including their protein powder which is available in Skippy® Peanut Butter and JetPuffed™ Marshmallow flavors.

Read about my full experience using Ryse Loaded Protein here.

No Crash

I was blown away by how long the energy from Ryse Loaded Pre lasted. I felt the energizing effects of this pre-workout more than 5 hours after taking it and never experienced a post-workout crash.

As I’ve mentioned, I do most of my workouts first thing in the morning. I typically take my pre-workout at 5:30 am and aim to be at the gym starting my training at 6:00 am.

Immediately following my workout, I head straight into parenting duties, go for a full workday, and then jump straight back into mom mode.

It is imperative for me to find a pre-workout that provides good energy without a crash because I can’t afford to have a physical crash and brain fog throughout my day.

Drawbacks: What I Did Not Like About  Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout

It Doesn’t Provide Much Benefit Aside From Energy

The Ryse Loaded Pre label advertises that it provides Pump, Energy, and Strength. I’ve discussed how much I enjoyed the energy benefits, but in my experience, Ryse Loaded Pre fell flat in delivering pump and strength.

Technically speaking, Ryse Loaded does contain an ingredient for increasing pump (citrulline), and stimulants like caffeine have been shown to increase strength and power.

My personal experience was that the strength and pump from Ryse effects from rise were substantially lower than what I have experienced from other pre-workouts, especially compared to the products I have tested most recently, including Bucked Up, Woke AF, and BlackWolf Pre.

For what it’s worth, after browsing the reviews for Ryse, many positive reviews praise its excellent pump, so this could have been individual factors like hydration status or diet.

How Does  Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout Stack Up Against Our Criteria for Workouts

Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout

Price

Our rating: 3.5/5

Ryse Loaded Pre comes at a reasonable $1.33 per serving, below the average cost of pre-workout which we calculated to be around $1.61.

The low price comes at the expense of having very few clinically-dosed ingredients for strength, pump, and endurance, so I can’t rate the price higher.

Taste

Our rating: 5/5

Ryse is well-known for its great-tasting products, and its Loaded Pre is no exception.

They offer a variety of sweet and sour flavors with unique collaborations.

Mixability

Our rating: 5/5

Ryse Loaded Pre Workout dissolves easily and completely with minimal effort using a traditional shaker cup or a cup and spoon.

If you allow the mixed product to sit for too long, a small amount of powder settles on the bottom. This is easily remedied by gently swirling or shaking your cup as you drink.

Energy

Our rating: 5/5

Ryse Pre Workout is designed to deliver intense, prolonged energy, and it shows.

This pre-workout gave me the energy to get out of bed before dawn, complete my workout, and move right into a long workday with no crash, jitteriness, or anxiety.

The potential downside is that with 390mg of caffeine per serving, the FDA’s recommended safe upper limit is 400mg daily.

As such, if you enjoy other sources of caffeine throughout the day, like coffee, energy drinks, or fat burners, drinking them alongside Ryse Loaded Pre could put you at increased risk of experiencing adverse side effects.

Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout Pump, Energy and Strength

Pump

Our rating: 2/5

With 4.5g of citrulline per scoop, Ryse Loaded Pre may provide a muscle pump, but it technically falls shy of the doses most proven in research (6-8g).

After testing, Ryse Loaded failed to deliver a significant muscle pump, at least compared to other pre-workouts I have tested.

However, some reviewers on Amazon say that Ryse gave them the “best pump they’ve ever had.”  So this is something that should be tested for yourself.

Strength

Our rating: 1/5

While testing Ryse, I found that my strength and workout volume were significantly lower than they had been in the previous weeks.

Despite my good energy, I struggled to complete the same weights and reps I had completed with relative ease for weeks.

While caffeine and stimulants are shown to increase strength and power, Ryse Loaded Pre lacks additional ingredients to target strength specifically.

What Are Other Customers Saying About Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout?

Ryse loaded pre boasts a 4.8 out of 5 star rating on the Ryse Supplements website, and 4.3 out of 5 stars on Amazon.com.

This is typical, as users who shop directly from a brand’s website are more likely to be fans of the brand, whereas Amazon and third-party retailer shoppers are more casual.

Of the 5-star reviews from Ryse Loaded Pre, customers praise the great taste and the fact that it provides excellent energy with no crash.

As I mentioned above, while it wasn’t my personal experience there were some buyers who claimed that Ryse gave them everything from a “decent pump” to the “best pump I ever had”.

On the Ryse website, Ryse Loaded Pre had zero 1-star reviews.

Amazon.com had a lot more to say. 8% of the reviews for Ryse Loaded Pre were 1-star reviews, with customers noting that they felt weaker than normal while using it and felt like it didn’t provide them any pump.

Users also reported side effects like upset stomach, nausea, and headaches.

Ryse Loaded Pre-Workout Alternatives?

Ryse Godzilla

If you are a self-proclaimed stimulant junkie who also wants the highest possible doses of performance-enhancing ingredients like citrulline, beta-alanine,  betaine, and creatine then consider trying Ryse Godzilla

A single scoop serving of Ryse Godzilla provides 200mg of caffeine with a full clinical dose of beta-alanine (3.2g) and betaine (2.5g). The single scoop has 5.5g of a citrulline blend, which is just shy of clinical dose standards, and half of a daily dose of creatine monohydrate (2.5g).

As a single scooped pre-workout, Ryse Godzilla delivers an outstanding, well-rounded pre-workout with moderate caffeine.

For those who are experienced pre-workout users looking for the most intense experience, you can try a 2-scoop serving of Godzilla, which packs a potent 400mg of caffeine, 11g of citrulline, 6.4g of beta-alanine, and 5g of both betaine and creatine monohydrate.

Ryse Godzilla has the same Thinkamine™ that the Loaded Pre does, and the addition of citicoline will help deliver a strong mental focus.

Ryse Godzilla has a significant cost trade-off compared to its lower-dosed counterpart, Ryse Loaded Pre.

Suppose you take a single scoop of Ryse Godzilla. In that case, you will pay only around $1.42 per serving (which is very reasonable considering the doses of strength-boosting ingredients it contains).

If you want to go all-out and take the full 2-scoop serving of Ryse Godzilla, the cost per serving doubles to $2.84. The most expensive pre-workouts we have found tap out at around $3.00 per serving, putting Ryse Godzilla among them.

Transparent Labs Stim-Free

Transparent Labs Stim Free

Suppose you stumbled across this article because you heard about Ryse, but you are sensitive to caffeine or workout late in the evening. In that case, Transparent Labs offers a high-quality and third-party tested caffeine-free pre-workout.

Transparent Labs Stim-Free delivers clinical doses of citrulline (8g), beta-alanine (4g), taurine (1.3g)  and betaine (2.5g) to provide enhancements to pump, endurance, and strength.

This pre-workout also contains tyrosine, which can resist fatigue and increase memory and cognitive function, providing an energy boost and mental focus to your workout.

There is a unique, patented ingredient found in Transparent Labs Stim-Free called elevATP®. This ingredient can increase ATP (energy) levels in the body, further boosting strength, power, and performance.

Read my full experience using Transparent Labs Stim-Free here.

Transparent Labs Stim-Free is informed choice certified, making it safe for use by elite athletes. It is third-party tested and contains no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

Transparent Labs Stim-Free costs $1.66 per serving (or $1.50 with the subscribe and save feature). While it is more expensive than Ryse, it contains higher doses of performance-enhancing ingredients.

Are There Any Promos or Discounts For Ryse Loaded Pre Workout?

Ryse Supps offers a stack and save feature if you order directly from their website. If you purchase two products, you save 10% off your order. Ordering three items saves you 15% off your order, and four items save you 20%.

With this feature, you can choose 2 of the same item or two different items (e.g. a protein powder and a pre-workout) and take advantage of these savings.

I was also offered a free gift (in this case, a shaker cup) with my purchase. I am unsure if this is a typical offer, what’s required to unlock it, or if it changes seasonally.

Ryse has a page on their website titled Rewards that is not yet active but teases that there will be the opportunity to gain “exclusive access, perks, and savings” in the future.

I imagine this will be similar to what we’ve seen from brands like Ghost, who provide various ways to accumulate points and then spend those points on products and gear online.
