When it comes to high-quality supplements, Transparent Labs is usually the first name that comes to mind. They’ve built a massive following by sticking to a simple “no-BS” formula: clinical doses, no artificial junk, and 100% transparency.
While I’ve been a long-time fan of their Grass-Fed Whey protein powder, I was curious to see if their Ready-to-Drink (RTD) version could maintain that same standard.
After putting it to the test over several weeks of training sessions and busy workdays, here is my deep-dive, honest review of the Transparent Labs Grass-Fed Protein Drink.

About Transparent Labs
Transparent Labs is a Utah-based supplement company that has essentially forced the rest of the industry to level up. For years, the supplement world was shrouded in “proprietary blends” – a way for supplement companies to hide the exact quantities of ingredients found in their products.
Transparent Labs changed the game by providing 100% formula disclosure. Not only do they disclose the exact amounts of the ingredients found in their products, but they also were one of the first companies to publicly disclose the results of their third party testing. More recently, they’ve gotten the Informed Protein certification on their products. This additional level means that their products are tested to make sure that the protein content they advertise is accurate on top of the already high standard of testing for contaminants like heavy metals.
Transparent Labs products are gluten-free, non-GMO, and they source their whey from New Zealand where dairy standards are among the highest in the world.
Overview of Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD

The macronutrient profile of the Transparent Labs RTD is specifically engineered for those who want to maximize protein percentage while minimizing carbs and fats.
Macro Breakdown (Vanilla flavor)
- Calories: 130
- Protein: 30g
- Carbohydrates: 2g
- Fat: 0g
- Sugar: 0g
Since Transparent Labs RTD contains 30g of protein, 120 out of the 130 total calories come directly from protein. This means that each bottle of Transparent Labs RTD is around 92% protein per scoop which reaches well into the excellent category.
At Feastgood.com, our criteria for grading protein percentage for RTDs is:
- Excellent: >75% of the calories come from protein
- Good: 60-75% of the calories come from protein
- Reasonable: 50-60% of the calories come from protein
Transparent Labs RTD offers a great protein percentage even by traditional protein standards. When compared to other RTDs, Transparent Labs knocks them out of the park for protein percentage.
Highlights: What I Liked About Transparent Labs Grass-fed RTD

Great digestion and protein content
In my ten years as a supplement store manager, the #1 complaint I hear about RTDs is bloating. Most ready-to-drink shakes use Milk Protein Concentrate (MPC) or Calcium Caseinate. While these are fine for some, they are slower to digest and often contain higher levels of lactose. This can cause gassiness, bloating, or discomfort for people with dairy sensitivities.
Transparent Labs uses Whey Protein Isolate. Because the lactose and fat are filtered out, it digests more quickly and is a great support for workout recovery and muscle growth. Also notably, it doesn’t sit like a brick in your stomach after a workout.
Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD delivers 30g of high-quality, easy to digest protein
No Chemical Aftertaste
If you’ve tried other brands like Muscle Milk, you might be familiar with that lingering, cloying sweetness that comes from sucralose. Transparent Labs sweetens with Stevia. While Stevia can sometimes be bitter, they’ve managed to balance it here perfectly.
The vanilla provided a great flavour without being overly sweet that was great on its own, or mixed into coffee.
Transparent Labs tastes great without the use of artificial additives.
Independently Third Party Tested and Informed Protein Certified
For my athletes who are subject to drug testing, this is the gold standard. Seeing the Informed Protein seal means that the product has been verified to contain the amount of protein listed on the label and is free from banned substances. In an industry where “protein spiking” (adding cheap amino acids to cheat lab tests) still happens, this peace of mind is worth the extra couple of dollars.
Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD is Informed Protein Certified and independently third party tested to ensure quality and label accuracy.
Drawbacks: What I Didn’t Like About Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD
The Financial Commitment
This isn’t an issue exclusive to Transparent Labs, whose protein powder is very reasonably priced considering the quality. RTDs in general cost more to manufacture, store, and ship than powders do and they come with a higher price tag.
If we compare the cost per gram of protein, Transparent Labs Protein Powder costs around $0.06 per gram where the Transparent Labs RTD costs around ~$0.13 per gram.
You are effectively paying double the price for the convenience of having the ready-to-go format.
Now for many people – including myself as a busy and active parent – sometimes the cost<>convenience trade-off is a fair trade.
But for the budget-conscious individual, this product might be out of budget at over $4.00 per bottle.
Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD costs around $4.16 per bottle, which may be out of budget for some consumers, especially for daily use.
Low Satiety
Because this is a thin, fast-digesting isolate, it didn’t do much to curb my hunger, even with a full 30g of protein. This is a fantastic product for a high quality, on-the-go protein source or as something to have as part of a snack, post-workout, or in between meals.
If you are looking for something to double as a meal replacement, however, this isn’t the product I would reach for.
Limited Flavor Selection
Being one of the newest products to the Transparent Labs lineup, this product doesn’t come in the same flavor variety that their protein powder does.
Currently, Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD is only available in two flavors: Vanilla and Salted Caramel (which, incidentally, happen to be my personal go-to flavors). While these would be my top picks for RTD flavors, others might find the small selection limiting.
Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD Review: My Experience

Testing the new Transparent Labs Grass-Fed Protein RTD over the past several weeks has been a game-changer for my daily routine. As a busy, active parent juggling training sessions and chaotic workdays, I am always on the hunt for high-quality nutrition that doesn’t require extra kitchen prep. This ready-to-drink format completely nailed the convenience factor.
From a taste and texture perspective, this is easily one of the cleanest RTDs I have reviewed. I tested the Vanilla flavor, which delivered a smooth, naturally pleasant profile. What I appreciated most was the complete absence of that lingering, chemical aftertaste that can come with some of the mass-market shakes sweetened with sucralose.
Transparent Labs uses stevia as their sweetener, but manages to maintain a good balance that avoids any bitterness. Texture-wise, it has a highly drinkable, creamy consistency with zero chalky residue. It does lean a bit on the thinner side compared to heavier shakes on the market, but that actually makes it much easier to down right after a grueling workout.
Beyond chugging it straight from the bottle ice-cold, I loved finding alternative ways to integrate it into my day. My favorite method was pouring it directly into my morning coffee. Because it is so smooth and fat-free, it serves as the perfect, high-protein alternative to traditional coffee creamer, turning my caffeine fix into a macro-friendly treat.
However, the experience wasn’t entirely without drawbacks. Because this formula utilizes pure whey protein isolate, it is incredibly fast-digesting. Combined with a lean 130 calories, it offers very low satiety. It didn’t do much to curb my hunger on its own, meaning it is strictly a post-workout recovery tool or snack companion, rather than a true meal replacement.
Additionally, the flavor selection is currently limited to just Vanilla and Salted Caramel. Now personally, these are my two favorite flavors and I would have no problem going back and forth between the two, this isn’t the case for everyone and some consumers might find this lineup too restrictive.
Lastly, there is a financial commitment. At roughly $4.15 per bottle, you are paying double the price per gram of protein compared to their powdered equivalent just for the luxury of convenience.
Will I use it again? Absolutely. I have been hitting my protein numbers significantly easier having these on-hand at home and at work.
While the premium price tag means it will not become a daily staple, the combination of high quality protein, easy digestion, great taste, and third party testing make it a luxury well worth keeping on hand for my busiest, on-the-go days.
How does Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD stack up against our criteria for RTD Protein Shakes?
At FeastGood, we have 10 different criteria for evaluating RTD protein shakes.
Nutrition Label Transparency
Our rating: 5/5
Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD clearly states all macronutrients, key micronutrients, sweeteners, serving sizes, and ingredients on the label.
Transparent Labs takes this one step further with publicly disclosed third party testing. You can find all of the testing results on the Transparent Labs website by following this link.
Macronutrient Profile
Our rating: 5/5
When it comes to optimizing protein percentage, Transparent Labs offers an incredible 92% protein per bottle with 0g of fat and 2g of carbs.
This is the ideal protein shake for somebody looking to increase their protein intake without sacrificing calories, carbs, or fats.
Protein Percent of Calories
Our rating: 5/5
With 92% protein per serving, Transparent Labs is among the highest protein percentages for any RTDs available on the market.
Normally, RTDs are a little lower in protein percentage than protein powders, but Transparent Labs maintains their quality in this formula. Even by traditional protein standards, Transparent Labs RTD is well within the “excellent” category for protein percentage.
Ingredient Quality & Effectiveness
Our rating: 5/5
Transparent Labs uses high quality grass-fed whey isolate and natural flavors to deliver a high quality protein drink.
They pair their clear formula with third party testing to add a level of reassurance that their product actually contains what it claims to, delivering on both quality and effectiveness.
Taste & Flavor Variety
Our rating: 3.5/5
The vanilla flavor tastes great and does not have any undesireable aftertaste. However, the RTD is currently only available in two options which could be a limiting factor for some consumers.
Texture & Drinkability
Our rating: 5/5
The Transparent Labs RTD has a smooth, creamy texture without any chalky residue.
This one is a bit on the thin side compared to other RTDs, like Piilk, which have a thicker consistency.
Satiety and Use Case Fit
Our rating: Best for Post Workout
Transparent Labs RTD is low calorie and uses a fast-digesting protein, making it most suitable as a post-workout shake, as part of a meal/snack, or between meals.
Since Transparent Labs RTD uses only whey isolate, a fast digesting protein, and contains only 130 calories, it does not provide prolonged satiety when consumed alone.
Digestive Tolerance and Allergens
Our rating: 4/5
Transparent Labs RTD is gluten-free and uses only natural flavors, which increase its digestibility. As a dairy-based protein, it is not suitable for individuals with dairy allergies.
One thing to note is that Transparent Labs uses whey isolate which is naturally low in lactose. People with lactose sensitivities will likely still be able to consume this protein drink with no adverse digestive side effects.
Those with stronger allergies or sensitivities to dairy proteins should still avoid this product.
Convenience and Portability
Our rating: 5/5
The bottles travel well and are double-sealed to prevent spillage or spoiling. They are best consumed cold which slightly decreases their convenience, but this is a characteristic among all RTDs.
Transparent Labs has a seal on the outside of the lid, and has an additional foil seal on the inside of the lid. I haven’t yet noticed other companies who do this, and it adds a level of security that the product won’t leak or spoil.
Cost and Value for Money
Our rating: 4/5
Transparent Labs RTD does come at a more premium price point, but they use high quality ingredients, abstain from cheap fillers, and have some of the highest third party testing standards in the industry, which help justify the higher cost.
At just over $4.00 per bottle, Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD will be out of budget for some consumers, especially those looking for a daily staple.
For individuals who prioritize the highest quality ingredients and standards, or for athletes who require specific certifications on their products, this higher cost is justified.

Who is Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD For?
You should try the Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD if:
- You are a clean label enthusiast who wants to avoid any artificial sweeteners, colors, or preservatives
- You are a high performance athlete who needs (or wants) third-party tested quality reassurance
- You are a traveler or commuter, or are always on the go
- You have a lactose sensitivity but still want to consume a high-quality isolate protein
Who Shouldn’t Drink Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD?
I would avoid Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD if:
- You are on a modest supplement/grocery budget
- You have a severe dairy allergy
- You are looking for a RTD meal replacement that will leave you feeling full for several hours
Where to Buy Transparent Labs Grass-Fed RTD?
Since this product is so new to the market, I haven’t been able to find any third party retailers who stock it, so Transparentlabs.com is your only option at the moment.
I almost always recommend purchasing your supplements directly from the company’s official website, anyways. When you buy straight from the source, you have access to the best deals, the freshest inventory, and their full flavor selection. Plus, if any issues arise with your shipment, their customer support team can handle returns or exchanges much more efficiently than a third-party online retailer can.
Alternatives to Transparent Labs RTD
Piilk Protein RTD
For individuals with dairy allergies, Piilk Protein RTD serves as an excellent alternative to Transparent Labs RTD because it completely eliminates traditional dairy sources by utilizing a unique yeast-based protein. While Transparent Labs relies on premium grass-fed whey isolate, which still contains dairy proteins that can trigger allergic reactions, Piilk’s formulation is dairy-free.
I recently got to test Piilk Protein RTD, and was amazed that it still maintained a great flavor and mixability despite being dairy-free and containing all natural ingredients.
Piilk has a higher concentration of carbs and fats, and is higher calorie than Transparent Labs so it also functions great for individuals looking for a more prolonged satiety from their RTD.
With similar price points, Piilk may still be out of budget for those with a more restrictive supplement budget.
Premier Protein RTD
If you are looking for a more affordable and accessible option, Premier Protein Ready-to-Drink Shakes serve as a great budget-friendly alternative.
Nutritionally, each bottle matches Transparent Labs by delivering 30 grams of protein, alongside 160 calories, 3 grams of fat, and just 1 gram of sugar.
The primary advantage of this alternative is its massive cost difference and convenience, as you can easily buy it in bulk at Costco or pick up a pack during your regular supermarket run for a fraction of the price.
However, its main shortcomings lie in the ingredient quality; unlike Transparent Labs’ clean label, Premier Protein relies on conventional milk protein concentrates and relies on artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners like sucralose, and thickeners.
Ultimately, while it may not satisfy those looking for an all-natural grass-fed formula, it is a highly effective tool if your main priority is hitting your protein targets without overspending.
