What Is Transparent Labs Pump?

Transparent Labs Pump

Transparent Labs Pump is a caffeine-free, nitric oxide boosting pre-workout.

The formula is simple yet effective, with only seven key ingredients.

Some common and effective nitric oxide boosters, like citrulline and arginine (labeled as NO3-T®), are present in clinical doses.

It also features two unique ingredients that I haven’t seen in any of the pre-workouts that I have tested yet: BioFolate® and L-Glutathione (more on those below)

While Transparent Labs Pump is not the optimal formula for anyone looking to boost their strength and power, it does contain betaine and tyrosine. These two ingredients can support overall work output and performance.

Transparent Labs Pump is an excellent formula for anyone who already takes a caffeinated pre-workout and wants to add something to enhance their muscle pumps.

It’s also for individuals who want to prioritize nitric oxide production with factors like mental focus and strength coming secondary, or for anybody who is trying to cycle off or avoid caffeine and stimulants but doesn’t want their workouts to suffer.

Like all Transparent Labs products, Pump’s formula does not contain artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners.

Furthermore, Pump is third-party tested for quality and purity, with the results available publicly online. Transparent Labs really does its best to go all-in on transparency.

Claims vs Reality:  How I Felt After Taking Transparent Labs Pump?

When I mixed up my first dose of Transparent Labs Pump, the first thing I noticed was the bright blue color provided by the blue spirulina in the formula.

Transparent Labs Pump has a bright blue color provided by blue spirulina

This pre-workout also became quite foamy when mixed with a shaker cup, so much so that it filled up my entire shaker cup. It settled very quickly into a drinkable texture, but it caught me off guard the first time.

Testing a pure pump product was a new experience for me because I seldom take a pump product alone. I usually pair a pump pre-workout with a stimulant-based one to amplify the pump effect.

I had to temper my expectations regarding athletic performance, especially after testing so many hard-hitting pre-workouts like Ryse Godzilla and Woke AF, which provide quick and noticeable energy boosts.

I didn’t experience any noticeable energy boosts or strength increases from Pump, which makes sense because the formula isn’t designed for that.

I DID experience really great stamina and recovery, which I wasn’t necessarily expecting.

I was so focused on assessing how significant the pump felt that it was only in hindsight that I realized my intra-set recovery felt fantastic, and I didn’t see as much of a decline in my volume as I typically do as I worked through my sets.

Speaking of pumps, Transparent Labs Pump really lived up to its name. During most of my workouts, I noticed muscle volume and vascularity improvements.

I personally noticed this effect most in my delts, glutes, and arms but that’s likely because my training has more isolation exercises focused on these body parts than my bigger muscle groups like chest, back, and legs.

I also found some lifestyle factors influenced how significant (or not) the actual muscle swelling effect was. Days where I worked out later in the day where I had eaten well and drank lots of water provided me with a really great muscle pump.

Mornings when I trained in a fasted state with almost no water intake aside from taking my pre-workout, the pump effect was less noticeable.

In every instance, though, I experienced increased stamina and recovery between sets and lower-than-normal muscle soreness post-workout.

Let’s talk taste.

Overall, if I were comparing the taste of Transparent Labs Pump to every single pre-workout across the board, I would rate the taste as “okay” or “acceptable.” That being said, when compared to other pump products, the taste was great!

It did have a bitter aftertaste, but this is incredibly common with pump products, especially ones that have proper clinical doses. The raw ingredients are naturally quite sour or bitter, and it’s pretty much impossible to mask their taste, especially when you don’t use any artificial flavors.

For my personal goals and style of workouts, which involve sneaking in 30-45 minute workouts in my home gym to help me keep up with my two busy preschoolers, Transparent Labs Pump isn’t going to take the number one spot as my top pre-workout choice.

It is, however, one that I will be happy to keep on hand to take alongside other Transparent Lab products, such as Bulk or Lean

I will also be more likely to reach for this pre-workout for my workouts that focus on isolation movements where more emphasis is on my arms, shoulders, and glutes purely for vanity reasons.

Transparent Labs Pump

Transparent Labs Pump

Transparent Labs Pump uses clinical doses for every ingredient that has clinical doses established. This helps guarantee that you will get the advertised benefits.

Citrulline

Citrulline helps the body to dilate and constrict its blood vessels. This improves blood flow throughout the body, especially to your working muscles.

Research shows that supplementing with citrulline before your workout can delay fatigue during high-intensity exercise, increase strength, and enhance recovery.

While more research is needed, the optimal dose of citrulline appears to be 6000-8000mg taken approximately 1 hour before exercise.

With a full 8000mg per serving, Pump meets clinical dosing standards.

Arginine Nitrate (NO3-T ®)

Arginine Nitrate provides a 2-pronged approach to increasing blood flow to your muscles:

  • Nitrates are found in green vegetables like broccoli and spinach and can be converted into nitric oxide in the body.

With this combination, NO3-T ® helps provide a significant muscle pump while also boosting endurance and supporting recovery.

I could not find a clinically effective dose of NO3-T® Arginine in the research, so instead, I compared Transparent Labs Pump to other products that use the same ingredient.

Transparent Labs Pump contains 2500mg of NO3-T® arginine per scoop.

Other pump products (like EVP Extreme N.O. Pre-Workout and Ghost Pump) use as little as 1000-1500mg per scoop, making Transparent Labs one of the highest dosed products for this ingredient.

Betaine Anhydrous

Betaine is a compound that plays a role in creating carnitine, a substance that converts fat into energy.

Betaine has shown some potential for increasing strength and power output, but the research so far has provided mixed results.

Betaine has been shown effective for improving body composition through increasing lean muscle mass and reducing fat mass.

The optimal dose of betaine is 2500mg daily. Transparent Labs Pump contains exactly 2500mg, meeting clinical dose standards.

L-Tyrosine

Tyrosine is an amino acid precursor to the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine.

There is a lot of anecdotal support from industry professionals in favor of using a dose of between 500mg and 2000mg for increasing energy and delaying fatigue.

Most of the research on tyrosine has used doses of 100-150mg per kg of body weight, which equals around 7,000-10,000 mg for a 150lb person, which is way higher than any amount found in pre-workout supplements.

Transparent Labs Pump contains 1000mg of Tyrosine, which is very similar to other pre-workouts containing tyrosine.

Even though there isn’t an official clinical dose, this dose may still increase endurance and help delay fatigue

L-Glutathione (Setria ®)

Glutathione is an antioxidant used by every single cell in the body.

Glutathione in this patented form, Setria®, has been shown to significantly increase the body’s nitric oxide production, particularly when paired with l-citrulline.

In studies, this combination kept nitric oxide levels elevated 30 minutes post-exercise when compared to either citrulline or Setria® on its own, which can help boost recovery and reduce fatigue.

When athletes were supplemented with glutathione before exercise, it was noted that both psychological and physiological markers of fatigue were reduced compared to the control group. (In other words, athletes who took glutathione physically recovered better and could feel the difference).

The clinical dose of Setria ® is between 250mg-1000mg daily. With 250mg per scoop, Transparent Labs Pump meets clinical dose standards.

Astragin ™

AstraGin® is a patented combination of notoginseng root and astragalus root.

AstraGin® was initially formulated to support gut health. A key benefit of improved gut health is better immune support and enhanced nutrient absorption.

The reason you find AstraGin® in your pre-workout supplements is that it can greatly increase the absorption of amino acids, which make up the most common ingredients of pre-workout, like citrulline and tyrosine.

The research using AstraGin® has used doses of 50mg, the same dose found in Transparent Labs Pump.

BioFolate ®

Biofolate is an active form of the B-Vitamin folate (B9).

Folate is key in DNA and RNA synthesis, red blood cells, and protein metabolism.

This specific form of folate has been shown to convert more arginine into nitric oxide, enhancing the effects of the citrulline and arginine found in Pump.

The Recommended Dietary Allowance for folate is 400 mcg, the same dose of BioFolate® found in Transparent Labs Pump.

Highlights: What I Like About Transparent Labs Pump

Great Value

At $1.66 per serving, Transparent Labs Pump provides phenomenal value compared to other pump products on the market, which can cost up to $3.00 per serving.

When evaluating the cost of pre-workouts, the majority of high-quality, clinically dosed products like Ghost Pump and Gorilla Mode Nitric fall between $2.00 and $3.00 per serving.

Dosing/Effectiveness

Transparent Labs Pump meets clinical dosing standards for all ingredients used for which those standards have been established.

There are a few ingredients in Transparent Labs Pump that have not been studied enough to establish a clinical dose (specifically, Arginine Nitrate and L-tyrosine).

All other ingredients in Pump meet the clinical doses used in research trials.

The end result is an effective product that delivers on its promises of pump, hydration, and blood flow.

No Artificial Ingredients

Like all other Transparent Labs products, Transparent Labs Bulk has no artificial flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives.

This isn’t necessarily a big deal, but many individuals have chosen to reduce artificial ingredients in their diet due to the unknown long-term effects of these products.

Furthermore, Transparent Labs uses natural ingredients like spirulina powder and beetroot powder to color their products in place of food dyes, which have been linked to various health concerns

Pairs well with other pre-workouts

As a reasonably priced, caffeine-free pre-workout, Transparent Labs can be easily stacked with your favorite pre-workouts to help you get a more noticeable pump and improved hydration.

You might already have a pre-workout that gives you other benefits that you really like, such as mental focus or energy, but it doesn’t quite give you the pump effect you are looking for.

In that case, you can safely add ½ scoop to 1 scoop of Transparent Labs Pump to your pre-workout stack.

For instance, if you are already taking a full scoop of Transparent Labs Bulk, Lean, or Stim-Free, adding a half scoop of Pump can help take the nitric oxide boosting effect to the next level, further enhancing muscle pump and recovery.

It’s also possible that you are only taking a half serving of Bulk or Lean, or you’re considering decreasing your dose in order to keep the stimulants lower. In this case, continue with your half scoop serving of those products and add a full scoop of Transparent Labs Pump.

Drawbacks What I Did Not Like About Transparent Labs Pump

It doesn’t taste fantastic

Transparent Labs Pump does have a noticeably sour and bitter taste.

This is very common among pump-focused pre-workout products.

Many of the raw ingredients are naturally sour or bitter, so when you have a product that has clinical doses of these ingredients, the taste can be hard to mask.

If you compare the taste of Transparent Labs Pump to other pre-workouts in general, it has a less desirable taste.

Very specialized pre-workout formula

Transparent Labs Pump is a specialized formula, designed predominantly to enhance nitric oxide production and blood flow.

You might view this as a pro or a con.

If you are looking for a high-quality product that provides a great muscle pump and enhanced hydration and recovery, you’re likely to be satisfied with Transparent Labs Pump.

If you’ve made it this far but are looking for a more well-rounded formula that will provide extra benefits like energy, strength, and endurance, you’d be better off trying Transparent Labs Bulk or Stim-Free instead (if you want to skip the caffeine).

How Does Transparent Labs Pump Stack Up Against Our Criteria For Pre-Workouts

Price

Our rating: 5/5

Other comparable pre-workout pump products cost anywhere from $2.00 to $3.00 per serving.

Products with a lower cost per serving were almost always under-dosed or were products where you had to take a 2-scoop serving to reach clinical doses.

When you add in the fact that Transparent Labs avoids using artificial ingredients, which are often less expensive, and they invest in high-quality third-party testing certifications, the value is even more obvious.

Taste

Our rating: 3/5

Transparent Labs Pump does have a slightly sour and bitter taste. This is common among pump products.

It’s not my intention to turn you away from this product based on taste.

As I mentioned, sour and bitter tastes are common among all pump products because the most effective ingredients have strong flavors that are hard to mask.

The Blue Raspberry flavor I tried was still enjoyable to drink, and I found it tasted better than a lot of other pump products I have used in the past.

Mixability

Our rating: 4/5

Transparent Labs Pump mixes up easily and doesn’t have a noticeably gritty texture, but some undissolved residue settles on the bottom.

Transparent Labs Pump residue

Some pump products that I have tried in the past, like Gorilla Mode Nitric, were so gritty in texture that it was very undesirable to drink.

Even though there was some undissolved product in Transparent Labs Pump, it still drank with a juice-like texture, and the leftover residue was minimal.

Energy

Our rating: N/A

Transparent Labs Pump does not provide noticeable increases in energy, but it isn’t designed to.

While it didn’t provide a significant energy boost, I did feel like it took my muscles longer to fatigue which resulted in improved endurance and higher work output.

Pump

Our rating: 5/5

Transparent Labs Pump delivers on its name with clinical doses of high-quality ingredients.

Not only are the ingredients themselves high quality, but Transparent Labs has put a lot of thought into combining these ingredients.

They have chosen very specific ingredients that amplify each other’s benefits, like the combination of citrulline and Setria®, which provides a higher and longer-lasting nitric oxide boost than either ingredient alone.

Note: I noticed that lifestyle factors influenced the pump effect. When I trained first thing in the morning, in a fasted and dehydrated state, the effects were less compared to when I trained later in the day and stayed well-hydrated.

Strength

Our rating: 3/5

When testing Transparent Labs Pump, I didn’t notice strength increases in the traditional sense of being suddenly able to lift higher weights for my regular lifts.

What I did notice was that I had more muscle stamina and better recovery in between sets. This allowed me to have a higher overall work output.

For example, in a traditional set of shoulder presses, I might be able to do 12 repetitions on my first set, but fatigued to being able to do only 7 or 8 reps on my last set.

When taking Transparent Labs Pump, I maintained the 12 repetitions through all of my sets, so even though the weight I used didn’t change, I lifted more total weight in my workout.

Who Should Take Transparent Labs Pump?

Who Should Take Transparent Labs Pump?

Transparent Labs Pump is for:

  • Someone looking for great muscle pumps: This is a fantastic product if you’re trying to prioritize muscle pumps over other pre-workout benefits.
  • Someone who values high-quality ingredients: Knowing you’re consuming a product with ingredients backed by research is another assurance you’ll get the advertised benefits.
  • Someone looking for a clinically dosed pre-workout: There’s no point in buying a product if the ingredients don’t have the effective doses that are proven to give results.
  • Someone who trains in the evening or wants to avoid caffeine: Because it’s stimulant free, Pump is a good option for late-night lifts or individuals who are de-loading or trying to cycle off caffeine but still want some performance benefits.
  • Someone who feels like their main pre-workout isn’t delivering enough pump: Someone who is an experienced pre-workout user can stack this product with other pre-workouts to maximize their pump and performance

Who Should Not Take Transparent Labs Pump?

Transparent Labs Pump is not for:

  • Someone looking for energy and mental focus boosts
  • Someone looking for significant increases to strength or power
  • Someone very sensitive to taste or someone looking for the best tasting product

What Are Other Customers Saying About Transparent Labs Pump?

Pump had a 4.4 out of 5 star rating on the Transparent Labs website. This is certainly still a respectable rating, but it is the lowest-rated pre-workout currently available from Transparent Labs, with Bulk being the front-runner at 4.7 out of 5 stars.

Any other websites that sell Transparent Labs Pump had little to no rating information available so while I try not to put all of my stock into a company’s own website reviews, I didn’t have much of a choice with Pump.

Even browsing Reddit and Quora didn’t offer much insight since Pump is so new to the Transparent Labs lineup, most of the discussion around “Transparent Labs Pump” just discussed the great pumps from Transparent Labs Bulk and Stim-Free.

It should also be noted that the Transparent Labs website only has 111 reviews on Pump, which is a very small sample size (some products I have tested have tens of thousands of reviews).

With all that being said, the most notable things that customers praised about this product include its value for clinical doses and an appreciation for the quality of both the product and the company.

Unfortunately, most other positive reviews were just general claims of “Great product!” or “Love this one!”.

I dug into the negative reviews, which were a combination of “tastes great but doesn’t work” and “works well but tastes terrible.”

Several people noted that while Transparent Labs Pump was good, they felt more noticeable performance benefits from Bulk and Stim-Free.

Transparent Labs Pump Alternatives

Transparent Labs Stim-Free

Transparent Labs Stim-Free is, as the name suggests, another caffeine-free pre-workout.

Compared to Pump, Stim-Free has fewer overall ingredients to support nitric oxide production, but the ones it does have, like citrulline, are clinically dosed.

Stim-Free offers some similar ingredients to Pump, like betaine and l-tyrosine.

In place of the arginine and glutathione that Pump has, Stim-Free features beta-alanine, taurine, and elevATP®, ingredients known to increase endurance and delay fatigue.

Overall, Stim-Free provides a more well-rounded formula with ingredients to support all aspects of athletic performance, like energy, mental focus, strength, and stamina.

Both options are caffeine and stimulant-free, with no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

Both pre-workouts are Informed Choice certified and safe for use by drug-tested athletes.

Transparent Labs Bulk

If you are looking for one single product to increase energy, mental focus, strength, pump, and endurance then Transparent Labs Bulk is one worth looking into.

I spent several weeks testing Transparent Labs Bulk, and it immediately shot to the top of my list for favorite pre-workouts (read all about that experience here).

Unlike Pump and Stim-Free, Transparent Labs Bulk contains caffeine (200mg, equal to 2 cups of coffee) and nootropics to support alertness, mental focus, and mood.

Bulk still has clinical doses of pump ingredients, like 8g of citrulline, but the muscle pump is just one aspect of Transparent Labs Bulk instead of being the main event.

Like the other Transparent Labs items mentioned in this article, Bulk has no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives and is Informed Choice certified.

Transparent Labs Bulk tastes fantastic (I personally tested every single flavor here). It is currently available in 12 flavors, which makes it more likely that you will find one you like.

You can choose to have your shipping frequency every 30, 45, or 60 days, and you can cancel at any time, so there’s no minimum commitment.
