If you can’t afford at least 225 calories in your calorie budget, mixing your collagen powder with oats isn’t the best option for you.
This value would increase if you mixed your oats with milk instead of water, had more than ½ cup of oats, or used a higher-calorie collagen powder.

The other drawback of mixing collagen with oats is that it increases your daily carb intake by approximately 29 grams (per ½ cup serving of oats), which you may not want if you’re trying to reduce your carb intake while dieting.
If you’re dieting to reduce your body weight, adding more carbs to your daily intake just to take your collagen supplement isn’t the best option.
When you’re dieting, it’s common practice to reduce your carb intake, so you may want to consider mixing your collagen powder with a lower-carb alternative like whey protein.
If you’re not dieting and have a higher carb intake, the carbs from oatmeal shouldn’t be a concern.

Collagen powder and oatmeal could be consumed at any time because there is no bad time to consume these ingredients. But there are times when it may be more beneficial to consume them.

Collagen and oatmeal together are great for pre-workout. The carbs from the oatmeal will provide fuel for your workouts because carbs provide your body with energy while working out.
Although there aren’t any increased benefits of taking collagen before a workout compared to other times of the day, it’s best to have it before your workout for energy if you’re pairing it with oatmeal.
Increased energy for your workouts can improve your performance in the gym, which can lead to more strength gains and a better physique.

- 1 scoop collagen powder
- ½ cup ground oats
- ¼ tsp cinnamon

Those who are dieting, especially those using the keto diet, shouldn’t mix their collagen with oatmeal because it can delay the process of you reaching your goals.
The only people who may not want to mix collagen powder with oatmeal are those who are restricting their calorie and carb intake to lose weight.
If you can fit the oatmeal into your daily goals, there is no issue. However, if your intake is low enough that ½ cup of oatmeal would limit your calorie/carb allowance for the rest of the day, it’s not worth it.
